Scholarship Programme for Christian Young People (SCYP) in Hungary 2026/2027 (Full-degree Scholarship for Bachelors, Masters & Doctoral Programmes)

The core mission of the Scholarship Programme for Christian Young People (SCYP Program) is to provide the possibility of studying in Hungary for young Christian students living in the crisis regions and developing countries of the world.

Tell Me About The Award:

The SCYP scholarship is a fully funded initiative by the Hungarian government to support young Christian students from crisis regions and developing countries. It provides:

  • Tuition-free education at Hungary’s top universities
  • Monthly stipend:
    • HUF 166,600/month for Bachelor, Master, and One-tier Master students
    • HUF 140,000/month (Phase 1) and HUF 180,000/month (Phase 2) for Doctoral students
  • Accommodation support: free dormitory or HUF 40,000/month contribution
  • Travel allowance: HUF 200,000 per academic year
  • Medical insurance: national coverage + supplementary insurance

Note: The stipend and contributions may not fully cover all living expenses. Students are advised to check the cost of living in their chosen city.

Which Fields are Eligible?

Scholarship priority is given to the following study areas:

  1. Agriculture, Economic Studies, Medical and Health Sciences, Technology
  2. Computer Science, Law and Administration, Political Science, Teacher Training
  3. Natural Sciences
  4. Humanities, Social Sciences

Type:

Full-degree scholarship (Bachelor’s, Master’s, One-tier Master’s, Doctoral programmes)

Who can Apply?

  • Must belong to a Christian community with a recommendation from the local ecclesiastical authority
  • Must be a citizen of eligible countries: Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Armenia, Chad, Niger, Nicaragua
  • Meet academic and language requirements for the chosen study programme
  • Must not be under 18 years of age as of 31 August 2026

Who Cannot Apply:

  • Hungarian citizens (including dual nationals)
  • Refugees, asylum seekers, or individuals holding protection in Hungary
  • Current fee-paying students at Hungarian universities
  • Former SCYP or Stipendium Hungaricum scholars applying for the same study cycle

How are Applicants Selected?

  1. Church recommendation verification & technical check: until 15 February 2026
  2. University-level evaluation and submission of required medical certificate: until 30 April 2026
  3. Final scholarship decisions: 15 June 2026
  4. Official notification: after 1 July 2026
  5. Acceptance deadline: 31 July 2026

How Many Awards?

  • Number of awards varies per cycle, subject to approval and church recommendations

Duration of the Award:

  • Bachelor: 2–4 years
  • Master: 1.5–2 years
  • One-tier Master: 5–6 years
  • Doctoral: 2+2 years (PhD with 2 phases)
