Fully Funded Hardiman PhD Scholarship 2026 – Applications Now Open: Stipend Available

Who Are the Scholarships For?

The Hardiman PhD Scholarships are designed for students starting their PhD on 1st September 2026. They are fully funded for four years, including:

  • stipend of €25,000 per year
  • Tuition fees fully covered

Ideal candidates are high-achieving individuals with:

  • The ability to positively impact and shape society
  • A desire to thrive in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment

The scholarship supports students pursuing a Structured PhD across a wide range of programs at the University of Galway. Fellows are encouraged to use their creative energy to explore opportunities, collaborate widely, and engage deeply with their research.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be eligible to commence a PhD at the University of Galway on 1st September 2026
  • Demonstrate academic excellence and research potential
  • Possess the motivation and creativity to contribute meaningfully to their field
  • Be prepared to engage fully with the research community and interdisciplinary initiatives

How to Apply

Applicants must carefully read the Applicant’s Guide before completing the application form. The process includes three main steps:

  1. Find a Supervisor
    • Applicants must nominate a PhD supervisor.
    • The proposed supervisor must submit a Supervisor Form by 6 February 2026, 17:00 Irish Time.
  2. Submit Your Application
    • Complete applications must be submitted by 6 February 2026, 17:00 Irish Time.
    • Applications may be submitted in English or Irish only.
  3. Provide Academic References
    • Two academic references are required to indicate the applicant’s suitability and potential to undertake postgraduate research.
    • References must also be submitted by 6 February 2026, 17:00 Irish Time.

All forms, including the Supervisor Form and Reference Form, are available online through the University of Galway application portal.
